Diamicron MR 60 now on the new Essential Medicines List of the World Health Organization.

Tuesday, August 20, 2013

Due to its excellent efficacy/safety balance, Diamicron has just been added to the new Essential Medicines List (EML) by the World Health Organization.

The WHO (World Health Organization) Model List of Essential Medicines (EML), which serves as a guide for the development of national and institutional essential medicines lists, is updated and revised every two years by the WHO Expert Committee on Selection and Use of Medicines.

In light of recent publications and the arrival of new therapeutic classes, the expert committee discussed the addition of new oral antidiabetic drugs to the EML.

In accordance with the conclusion of the experts based on efficacy, safety, and cost, only two oral antidiabetic drugs are included in the new list: (i) for the first time, gliclazide (including the 60-mg dosage) and (ii) metformin.

The prestigious WHO's recognition of Diamicron MR 60 is another great opportunity to highlight this drug's unique place in the management of type 2 diabetic patients, newly diagnosed or uncontrolled by metformin.

All the best in your promotion efforts with this new publication,

The Diamicron MR 60 team
